Re: afforadable source of dredge float material

I have seen some people use a traffic cone for a flare, cut a piece of wood or sheet metal to attach to the big end to form the cone to an oval.

Re: Suction Hose Repair

Try using some Gorilla/good quality duct tape, wrap it well beyond the crack on both sides and take extra tape with you in case you develop more cracks while dredging, should get you through a couple of days. Make sure your hose is clean and dry when you apply the tape, duct tape will stay stuck eve...

Re: Rookie question

I think if there is water in the pan... whether the pan is in or out of the water it won't make a difference. It may make the pan feel lighter in the hand if under the water though. Ditto, the gold is already displacing water in the pan, so more water in the pan or around the pan make no difference...

Re: reducing 4 inch to 3 inch

The amount of material that's goes into the nozzle/hose is governed my you, i.e. if you hog the material then you risk getting a jamb, it would be the same if you were using a 4" nozzle.

Re: reducing 4 inch to 3 inch

It depends on how they determine the size of the dredge, if it's the jet and hose then you would have to replace the jet on down to the nozzle, if it's just the nozzle then simply make a reducer.

A 3" will only move about half the material that a 4" will move.
