Potomac River

Postby dms » Sun Nov 27, 2011 11:23 pm

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any info about prospecting in the Potomac, south of the Great Falls area.

From Google Maps, it seems like there's a few sections around Black Pond to Scott's Run and then from Scotts Run to Turkey Run Park that don't seem to be park property. Are there any other things I should look at before I go out there with a shovel and start digging?

Should I check with the land records?

Thanks a lot!

If you are going to prospect in that area I suggest you use panning gloves. The potomac is a lot cleaner than it used to be but I would not trust the water down that far.

Hello I saw your post and just to warn you the Potomac River is all a National Park from someplace above harpers Ferry to DC so Prospecting on it will get you a free ride to the pokie.

I know I witnessed a person getting caught while I was scoping out the area close to home here in Great Falls. I would suggest looking elsewhere.

By the way I'm bongo and newbie to the forum but have been prospecting for may years now.
