Thanks for the heads up... NC is a bit of a haul.. I have till spring to find a set.

Kinda hoping a CC or CVGP regular might have a set.

It's okay if they are in need of repair.

Have you thought about using 15 gallon drums. They can be had cheap and make great dredge floats. Youd just have to build a frame for them. You would need 4 of them to float a 4 inch.

Hope this helps some.

I have 4 black plastic ones a friend gave me. Trying to make my homemade dredge look not homemade. Not sure the drums will track as well in the water as dredge floats either.

It's kind of a last resort for me.

Your "homemade" dredge will all ways look homemade and you should be proud of it...Now,...it must catch and keep AU ...

It looks great for homemade, hell yeah I'm proud of it. If I had a Keene sticker on the side of the sluice you wouldn't know any better. The only parts that were purchased was the flare hose and foot valve. Sluice, riffles, nozzle, twin jet, and custom mount for a HP400 pump to a Predator were of my doing.

Made a trailer that doubles as its stand which works great for shallow water, but at present it limits me to only shallow spots. Now that I'm in the CVGP I want to be able to dredge some of the deeper spots they offer, and possibly hit the Rapidan this season, Idaho is still possible too.

Shack turned a couple of us on to the 7# heavy duty expanded as riffles which I struggled with (hit or miss on the recovery). I swapped that out for a Hungarian riffle set I made and it's working better for me on the recovery. (just what I'm used to) with just a small 8" section of the 7# at the top that I grinded the top flat on for a Hungarian profile.

I just feel a little more secure with something designed for this and having it sit right and stable in the water. Haven't seen really any barrel setups except one that was done on a 6". Just seems like a lot of unnecessary bulk for a 4" and removes the possibility for a dump and pump setup with the trailer I haul the ATV on.

Complete 4" setup loaded up on the trailer.

A picture of the trailer/stand when I was experimenting with different riffle setups... made a homemade jack stand in the front for tweaking sluice angle. Really like that option for getting the pitch just right.

I don't think I have ever used #7. I've seen the #7, Sanman and I looked at #7 at a store in Richmond and it was way too big for a 16" wide dredge sluice. That stuff is 7lbs per square foot and is simply massive. I'm using #4 (officially called "grating" by the metal world) in the top 1/2 of the sluice under the crash plate and standard hungarians in the lower half after the crash plates.

It could be 4# ... Tim had talked to you a bit about it before he bought a sheet.

The metal it is made out of is 1/4" thick. The slab I got off him was damn heavy though.

Yeah, 1/4" sounds like #4. #3 is close as well, just a hair difference between #3 and #4. Good luck & have fun!

If you really want to know what size it is and I would ....

All you need to do is weigh it and convert it to Sq. Ft. ...If it's grating there 6 common sizes...3#, 4#, 4.27#, 5#, 6.25# and 7# per sq. ft........
